Earth Day History

Earth Day is soon approaching and Coleman's Green Team would like to celebrate everything green! Earth Day is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment. This year it is on April 22. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in in 1970 and is celebrated in many countries each year. Earth Day is in the spring in the Northern Hemisphere and in the fall in the Southern Hemisphere. The recycling symbol (known as the Mobius loop) was designed in 1970 as part of a contest for the original Earth Day for graphic art students to design a symbol representing paper recycling.
